Praying like Monks Living like Fools

This book by Tyler Staton is one of my favorites of all time. It shows how we all are tethered to prayer. It is God’s personal conversation with us alongside his greatest love letter to us, The Bible. He shows how prayer is not merely a routine but our life source. Communion with Jesus is the best gift we could be given.

Get out of your Head

This book by Jennie Allen helps remind us of how society has grown accustomed to being trapped inside a mental cycle. She sheds light and truth of the gospel and God’s grace onto this detrimental way of thinking. Being able to recognize the warfare that is being waged against one’s mind is the first step in being able to fight it, with actual truth.

Mere Christianity

This book is simply truth. C.S Lewis, an infamous theologian, lays out the gospel, thoughts about who God is, and how we play into the story of christ’s return in a deep theological way. He does not shy away from being controversial for his time, but he shows the magnitude of God in his fullness. Knowledge was arguably the highest value at his time but he argued that not knowing God’s greatness but simply standing in wonder at who he is is the greatest wisdom we can obtain.

Single. Dating. Engaged. Married

All are in one of these categories, but for those who are unsatisfied or unsure about where and how they should view where they are, this book by Ben Stuart is for you. The period after each stage is important to the content of the book. God wants us to trust him in whatever season he has us in, this means not longing for one of the stages to be void for the moment. He disentangles the messy lies that the world says we should value and replaces it with God’s truth. If you are struggling or just want to know more about relationships, this is the book for you.

Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at your Table

This book by Louie Giglio shows the true attack against the people of God. It shows that we have an enemy and it is not each other. The enemy cannot read your thoughts, but he is not clueless and is clever in order to find out just the thing to get you as far away from God as possible. That is why we have to know the truth and be transformed by it completely.

Gentle and Lowly

Jesus is seen as a powerful lion and books such as Revelation, which is a beautiful thing to see a victorious savior. However, often we forget about his gracious character, like a lamb, which is what saves us. Dane Ortlund does a deep dive into the care taking nature of Jesus. He shows how the love of the father is endless and chases after his beloved children, and that we are beloved because we are his. What a beautiful inheritance we have!

Driven By Eternity

Both John Bevere and Lisa Bevere are powerhouses for the gospel. This book puts the story of revelation, Jesus coming back, into a narrative that causes the reader to truly contemplate what one is living towards. It is compelling, convicting, and encourages a life lived well for the gospel. It has completely changed my life, just by causing me to see the perspective that the bible echos, that our life is a vapor. So we need to live it well, and that is fully for him.
